As we approach the end of the Rotary year, I find myself reflecting on the many milestones we’ve shared and the meaningful connections we’ve built, both locally and internationally.
This past month, we enjoyed a lovely joint dinner with our friends from CEC at Wine Connection for our third Tuesday meeting. It was a great opportunity to relax, connect, and celebrate our shared service ethos in good company.
One of the highlights of the month was welcoming our Korean Rotarian friends from Jeju Island, who visited us for three days. They made a special trip to Mae Chaem to deliver gifts to a local school – a generous gesture that was deeply appreciated. While we had hoped to inspect the village water system, time was unfortunately too short. Some of our Korean guests also attended the Installation Ceremony for our new District Governor before returning home. We were pleased to hear that the incoming District Governor of District 2780 (Jeju Island) is keen to partner with us on a District Grant. This is a promising step toward deeper collaboration in the year ahead.
To round off the month, I travelled north to Chiang Rai to watch the talented Akha girls from the Odelette project perform. Their mix of classical and traditional Akha music was inspiring and moving. While there, I had a conversation with the Assistant Governor from District 2060, Italy. He expressed a strong interest in joining forces with us on a future District Grant to support additional work at the Akha girls’ home in Chiang Saen.
At our next club meeting on 17th June, we will take time to reflect on all that we’ve achieved this year – to celebrate our progress and the partnerships we’ve nurtured, from Chiang Mai universities to the USA to South Korea to Italy and Japan. I hope to see many of you there as we close out the year with gratitude and purpose.
