President's Message For December 2024

This month has been filled with activities, achievements, and heartfelt moments for our CMIRC community. We began with a special celebration of Elsie Choy’s birthday at Peppino’s Pizza in Hang Dong. Elsie, a founding and honorary member, was delighted by a handmade birthday card from Aree, our youngest attendee—a lovely reminder of the connections we hold dear.

At our second meeting, we had the privilege of hearing from Maciej Witek, a Rotary Peace Fellow from Poland who is currently studying in Tokyo. Maciej shared his research on empowering children to become global citizens and discussed how the war in Ukraine has influenced Poland’s attitudes towards refugees—a timely and thought-provoking presentation.

Later, I was excited to join John, the project champion, and Bill, one of our generous donors, for a presentation in Phrao for our Water Safety and Drowning Prevention program. We recognised 300 Year 4 students from seven schools who had completed our 15-hour program, awarding them medals and certificates for their dedication.

Another highlight of the month was signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Chiang Mai University’s School of Nursing. This partnership supports three deserving students through our scholarship program, paving the way for their future success in healthcare.

We said goodbye to Al and Sue, cycling enthusiasts from Virginia, USA, who made significant contributions to our projects during their three-month stay in Chiang Mai. While we said goodbye to them, we were thrilled to welcome back Wessel from the Netherlands and Gordana from Croatia. Their renewed involvement strengthens our efforts.

None of this would be possible without the enthusiasm and dedication of our members and volunteers. Your passion ensures the success of our initiatives, and I sincerely thank you for your commitment.
