Making Waves: CMIRC Shines at the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2023

We are pleased to share that Past President Dr. John Schorr, the Project Champion of CMIRC's Children's Water Safety & Drowning Prevention Program, was invited to speak at the International Life Saving Federation's World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2023 held in Perth, Australia, from December 4–7, 2023.

The conference delved into themes like measuring and mapping the drowning burden, addressing drowning prevention in life stages and populations, and addressing drowning prevention in activities and occupational settings.

Dr. Schorr passionately represented our project, highlighting the urgency and importance of our mission. Drowning is the number one cause of death in children under 15 in Thailand, and CMIRC, alongside its dedicated partners, is making a difference. Every year, we teach water safety and survival swimming skills to every 4th-grader in all eleven municipal schools in Chiang Mai.
