Drowning continues to be the leading cause of death among Thai children under the age of 15, making CMIRC’s Children’s Water Safety & Drowning Prevention Program one of our most impactful and life-saving initiatives.
In Rotary Year 2024–2025, swim instruction in Chiang Mai was conducted by Kru Payu Swim instructors at Bronco Kids Sports Center, where over 350 fourth-grade students from the 11 Chiang Mai municipal schools learned essential survival swimming skills. Thanks to continued collaboration with the Rotary Club of Chiang Mai Wattana, additional instruction was provided at Wat Suan Dok School.
In Phrao District, over 300 students proudly received certificates after completing their course.
A major milestone this year was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Chiang Mai International Rotary Club, Kru Payu Swim, Bronco Kids Sports Center, and Chiang Mai Municipality. This landmark agreement secures the program’s continuation for at least two more years, guaranteeing that over 600 children will benefit from life-saving swimming instruction.
As we move into Rotary Year 2025–2026, CMIRC remains deeply committed to water safety education. With strong community partnerships and the ongoing support of our donors and members, we are confident we can continue saving young lives.
Children’s Water Safety Program Launches the 2025–2026 Rotary Year
On June 24, the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) officially kicked off this year’s Children’s Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Program with our first group of over 60 students from Wat Kukham Municipal School and Wat Pha Paeng Municipal School.
With ten instructors from the Krupayu Swim Team leading simultaneous sessions at two local pools, it was truly all hands on deck! A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers, generous supporters, and every individual who made this program possible.
