On September 27, 2025, Dr. John Schorr, PhD, of CMIRC will present our Children’s Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Program at the Chiang Mai Expat Club.
The presentation will share how a 2014 World Health Organization report identifying drowning as the leading cause of death among Thai children inspired CMIRC to launch a survival swimming and water safety initiative. Today, this project teaches 600–700 children each year lifesaving skills.
The session will also explore how this model can inspire other projects and provide pathways for expats and residents to engage in meaningful service. A discussion of other local volunteer opportunities will follow.
For those with the time and energy, giving back to Chiang Mai’s children is one of the most rewarding experiences of living here.
