CWSDPP: 8 Years of Saving Lives through Water Safety Education

The Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) Children's Water Safety & Drowning Prevention Program (CWSDPP) is marking its 8th year of operation with a critical mission: reducing child drowning deaths in Thailand.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for Thai children aged 1 to 14, claiming over 1,000 lives annually. CMIRC CWSDPP, in collaboration with partners, is working tirelessly to change this alarming statistic by providing water safety and survival swimming education to 4th-grade students in Chiang Mai, Phrao, and Phuket Province.

Mission and Impact

From the outset, CMIRC CWSDPP's mission has been to prevent child drownings by educating young children about water safety and survival swimming. By targeting 4th-grade students in municipal schools and a Migrant Learning Centre, the organization equips these vulnerable children with essential life-saving skills. Over the years, CMIRC CWSDPP has reached over 3,000 students, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to stay safe in aquatic environments.

The Program in Action

To understand the organization's impact, envision young, eager students participating in engaging water safety lessons. Expert instructors and dedicated volunteers guide these children through swimming techniques and provide critical insights into water safety. The program's success is reflected in the smiles of these children as they gain confidence in the water.

Crucial Partnerships

The CMIRC CWSDPP's success hinges on partnerships with organizations and individuals who share their commitment to saving lives. Partners like the Rotary Club Seattle 4, The Chiang Mai Municipal Schools, Bronco Kids Sport Club Pool, Kru Payu Swim, Rotary Club Chiang Mai-Wattana, and donor Richard Murray in Chiang Mai have played pivotal roles in supporting the program's growth. Warm Heart Worldwide and a generous private donor in Phrao have extended the program's impact. The Rotary Club of Patong Beach and the Banya Migrant Learning Centre in Phuket Province have expanded its reach, making a difference in multiple regions.

Through education, dedication, and strategic partnerships, CMIRC saves lives and ensures a brighter future for Thailand's young generation. By empowering children with the skills and knowledge to stay safe in and around water, CWSDPP is not just reducing statistics; it is making a profound impact on the lives of countless children.
