The past two months at the B. K. Kee Patient House have been filled with both calm and celebration. With the new library addition complete and the construction crews gone, our visits have returned to their usual rhythm of connection, care, and joy.
On a July visit, we were greeted by patients and staff trimming the large longan tree in front of the property. Once the work was finished, everyone shared the freshly harvested fruit - a simple but meaningful reminder of the spirit of collaboration that defines our time together. Whether enjoying art, jigsaw puzzles, bingo, or impromptu music sessions, patients consistently support one another. New arrivals quickly join the rhythm, while long-term residents encourage, ensuring there’s always a strong sense of community.
August continued that momentum with our regular activities—bingo, puzzles, and the always popular B. K. Kee House Has Talent. During bingo, numbers are called in English and translated into Burmese, with patients helping their neighbors so no one misses a win (and a dip into the snack bag!). Jigsaw puzzles remain a collaborative favorite, drawing in people of all ages.
The monthly talent show is often the highlight. Music plays as a ball is passed around, and when the music stops, the one holding the ball must sing or dance—often accompanied by long-term resident Julian on guitar. The show reaches its liveliest moments when everyone joins in the “chicken dance” and “YMCA,” with our Rotarians doing their best to keep up with the more graceful residents!
Though patients come and go, one constant remains: a spirit of friendship, creativity, and support. It’s this atmosphere that makes our bi-weekly visits so rewarding and meaningful.
