ACIS Interact Club's Sustainability Pilot Reflects Rotary Values in Action

Updated: 3 hours ago

The Interact Club of Americana Chinese International School (ACIS) has launched a Plastic & Paper Waste Collection Pilot Program that gives students a practical way to support sustainability while serving their school community.

The pilot began on one floor in each of the school’s three main buildings, with separate bins for plastic and paper placed in selected locations.

Interact/Student Council members and homeroom classes will help lead the effort through sorting and weekly monitoring, making this both an environmental initiative and a student-led learning experience.

This project reflects Rotary’s Community Service Avenue, as it addresses a real need within the school community, and it also connects strongly to Youth Service, since students are actively involved in leadership and service. In terms of Rotary’s Areas of Focus, it aligns most directly with Protecting the Environment and also supports Supporting Education by helping students build awareness and responsibility through everyday action.

The pilot runs for 4 to 6 weeks before being reviewed for possible expansion. Support is being linked through the ACIS Interact Club and sponsorship from the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club, highlighting the value of partnership in helping young people take meaningful action.
