A New Chapter Begins: B.K. Kee Patient House Celebrates Library Reopening & Leadership Transition

June 2025 brought a mix of challenges and celebrations to the B.K. Kee Patient House. Though one of our scheduled social visits was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, the month still saw generous donations of books, art supplies, and furniture, including two storage cabinets and a bookcase provided by CMIRC, helping prepare for a long-anticipated milestone.

The highlight came on Sunday, June 29th, with the official reopening of the B.K. Kee Library! The joyful event gathered 12 CMIRC members and donors, 19 residents, 5 staff, and representatives from Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), including Director Kanchana Thornton, staff Klao Sing and Bee, and three BCMF interns. Guests were welcomed with festive decorations and a surprise ribbon-cutting ceremony led by CMIRC President Owen Hodgson and Director Kanchana.

Afterward, the celebration continued with warm speeches, a heartfelt performance of “My Heart Will Go On” by a young resident, and a spirited group Chicken Dance. The event concluded with a Thai buffet co-organized by Klao and the CMIRC team, proof once again that food, music, and fellowship are powerful medicine.

The month also marked a leadership transition. After eight years of service and five years as Project Champion, our outgoing lead reflected on the joy and purpose he found at B.K. Kee. In true Rotary spirit, he passed the baton to Rtn. Andrew Boud, who, along with his wife Colleen, has played a vital role in recent visits. We look forward to continued compassion and care under Andrew’s leadership in RY 2025–2026.
