Our CMIRC School Vision Screening Program got underway in August. We have now completed screenings at all eleven municipal schools. In total, we screened 821 3rd and 5th-graders, including additional children from all grades that teachers had identified as possibly needing glasses.
In 2022, we have written prescriptions for 233 students, all of whom have already received their pair of glasses. We were pleased to see that current 5th-graders who had received glasses from us as 3rd-graders two years ago were still using them. They were examined again and prescribed new glasses if it was necessary.
Rotarian Gary Herman has been our official photographer. This month, we will show the Reader what the School Vision Screening Program looks like:
1. Registration
2. Close vision screening
3. Distance vision screening
4. Check for vision anomalies not already noted.
Decision on the next step, those with distance or close vision problems are sent to the optician for examination. Those with minor close vision problems are sent to our reading glasses table.
5. Our optician Khun One examines and writes prescriptions.
6. Students needing glasses select the frames they want to use.
7. Check out table and final recording of the screening process outcomes.
8. Returning to the school to deliver, fit, and instruct the children on the care of their new glasses (usually within one week of the prescription being written).
