A new CMIRC scholarship initiative is moving from planning into action. The Rotary Foundation and The Rotary Foundation Canada approved Global Grant GG2687789, Brighter Tomorrow, on 26 June 2026 with an award of US$30,000.

The grant, submitted by Chiang Mai International Rotary Club together with the Rotary Club of Vancouver, will support eight disadvantaged young people through an industry-recognized nursing-assistant certificate programme at the McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University in Chiang Mai.

Education with a direct pathway to employment

Brighter Tomorrow was designed to address two needs at the same time: the shortage of trained nursing assistants and the need for stronger economic opportunities for underserved youth. The programme gives students practical healthcare training that can lead directly to employment while strengthening the local care workforce.

From approval to active project

Following Rotary Foundation approval, the CMIRC Board authorized the release of the club funds previously committed to the grant. By 27 July, the project was already recorded as active. CMIRC representatives met with students and programme leadership at McCormick to hear directly about why the students want to become nursing assistants, their commitment to caring for others and their hopes for the future.

The project builds on CMIRC’s growing scholarship and healthcare-education work, which has already supported practical nursing students, university students and Myanmar learners progressing from GED education into professional pathways.

Brighter Tomorrow is another example of what becomes possible when local service, international Rotary partnerships and education come together around a clear pathway to long-term opportunity.
