Partner Spotlight: HFA-BCMF Expands Access to Healthcare

Burma Children Medical Fund, together with its sister organization Health for All Foundation, supports access to healthcare and human rights for vulnerable people from Burma and Thailand. BCMF was established in 2006 in response to the growing number of children on the Thai-Burma border who needed complex medical treatment and surgery not available at local clinics or hospitals. Before BCMF was created, many children who required surgery could only have their symptoms treated, leaving them to live with severe disability or to die prematurely.

Since then, BCMF has expanded from a focus on children and youth to serving patients regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, or political or religious affiliation. In response to the needs of underserved communities in Thailand, Health for All Foundation was registered in Thailand in late 2024 and fully launched in 2025.

Through its Referral Services Program, HFA-BCMF assists people with a wide range of health conditions requiring surgery. Patients from Burma and Thailand are referred to partner hospitals in Thailand, with HFA-BCMF helping support the costs of surgical treatment, diagnostic tests, and related social support services.

HFA-BCMF also strengthens medical access in vulnerable communities through outreach projects such as wheelchair distribution, eye screenings, 3D prosthetics and orthotics, and community health education. In response to growing requests from partner organizations and communities affected by Burma’s civil war, the organization also provides medical and non-medical humanitarian support to remote clinics, internally displaced persons camps in Burma, refugee camps in Thailand, and migrant and refugee communities in both countries.
