About the Event
Our main speaker for the evening will be John Hulme, Documentary Photographer. The topic will be John's photographic and video documentation of the Water and Sanitation Global Grant Project. The meeting is also accessible on ZOOM, please contact secretary@cmirotary.org for login details.
Official bio: bio: John Hulme, a UK-born, Northern Thailand-based documentary photographer, has spent decades documenting social issues in Europe, Thailand, Burma, India, Bangladesh, and Japan, focusing in particular on the
plight of so-called “illegal migrants”. Hulme’s photographs have been published in numerous books, magazines, and newspapers, including the Independent on Sunday, the Financial Times and the Sydney Morning Herald. His work has been widely exhibited in the UK, the US, Japan and Thailand, his best-known photo essays and exhibitions include “Burma’s Forgotten War” Images from the Thai/Burma border depicting Karen insurgents, Refugee camps and backpack medics, and “In Search of a Job–any Job” about Burmese migrant workers in Thailand. An accredited photographer for the BBC and Channel Four he has been involved in the production of several documentaries, including for Panorama shooting video footage of Thailand's Chicken farms and slaughterhouses. Other work includes Gold Mining in Kachin state Upper Burma; the 2010 Khumbh Mela; in Haridwar India, reputedly the largest gathering of humanity on the planet.
Entry to the in-person meeting requires proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, full facial masking and proper social distancing. In addition, all attending must take a self-administered ATK test on the day of the meeting with negative test results. Free ATK tests are available at the meeting. Hand sanitiser is provided at the meeting sign-in desk.
