The project aims to screen 3rd and 5th graders at the 11 Chiang Mai municipal schools. We test students for eye problems, provide them with the correct spectacles free of charge, then follow-up each year they’re in school.
Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) members pre-screen the kids for distance-acuity, near-acuity, color-vision, and stereo-vision before an optometrist examines them. Based on previous experience, approximately 10% of the children require spectacles to improve their vision. We visit every participating school on an annual basis, so the students can be re-examined and receive updated glasses, if necessary.
