February is Rotary’s Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month.  Peace through Service was the Rotary International Theme for 2012-2013 and while Chiang Mai International Rotary Club’s signature theme is Child Safety, Health and Education the ideas are embodied in what we are doing and will be doing over the coming months.
Our current effort to support the Mae Tao Clinic is a fundraising campaign to allow students at their Child Development Center to take the American G.E.D. test allowing qualifying them to apply for University study.  Given the opportunity many of these students will attend university and return to their community with skills necessary to make a positive impact on the future.
CMIRC is in the process of establishing an English Language Cultural Club where participants will be able to learn about each other’s cultures.   Understanding is perhaps the most critical element to finding Peace and avoiding conflict.  We are also in the process of establishing both an Interact and a Rotaract club in Chiang Mai.   Work continues on the establishment of a g Children’s Vision Screening project for the 1 Tessaban schools in Chiang Mai.
Coming up soon are several events where Rotarians and other community leaders will gather for the purpose of doing good in our community.  Here are just a very few:
20 February 2018 – CMIRC Birthday Party Meeting (   This will be a regular Rotary Meeting open to all current Rotarians and Invited guests.
03 March 2018 – CMIRC Golf Ball Drop, Cowboy Army Riding Club, Chiang Mai (  This is CMIRC's largest fundraiser; all money goes to support our efforts to improve Child Safety, Health and Education.   Tickets are on sale now!
17 – 18 March 2018 Rotary District 3360 Annual Conference.  Our district covers most of Northern Thailand and extends into Laos.   The district conference is a great opportunity to meet Rotarians from all over Northern Thailand and beyond.   This year the annual district conference will be held at the Empress Hotel.    Hope to see you there!
If you are a Chiang Mai area resident, or soon may be and you are looking for an opportunity to give back to the community, please contact us.  One of my very favorite things to do is have lunch with a prospective member.   It that you?
